Mission International's mission team to the Maasai people in Kenya is gaining ground. A small number of prospective team members have already expressed and interest and have taken the first step of completing and submitting an application form after enquiring about the team. Now others are keen to get on board too.

Our intention, as part of the support given to the Maasai people would be to provide Bibles in their local language at a cost of approximately £5 each. Mission Teams for 2010

Potential Mission Team Opportunities:
Mission International is committed to sending Mission Teams to various parts of Africa, Asia and South/Central America.

If you would like to apply for a Mission Team for 2010 please use the link on the right hand column of this page.

Teams are deployed for 2 - 4 weeks after receiving training. An experienced team leader will travel with the team. Team costs vary slightly according to destination as well as other factors but a cost of £1300- £1500 is targeted, more details on application.

Potential Teams:

Uganda - Working with local partner churches to share the Gospel and to serve the people with the skills you have.
Rwanda - Working with local partner churches preaching the Good News and serving the church and local ministries.
Burundi - Working with local NGO to serve refugee returnees rebuilding their lives in Burundi after being in exile in DR Congo and Tanzania.
Kenya - Working with local NGO serving the Maasai people.
Tanzania - working with local churches and NGOs serving refugees in camps on the Burundi border.
South Africa - Supporting local churches in their quest to share the Good News and support the poor.
India - Working with local NGO serving those with leprosy and those who are in prison.
Pakistan - Awaiting news of current political situation in Pakistan
Haiti - Working alongside local churches serving the poor in the community.

Skills required:

Preaching/Teaching - In particular Gospel preaching and discipleship training
Children's Ministry - Stories, songs, dramas for children and some adults.
Medical/Dental - Basic facilities in rural areas require experienced practitioners and/or those up for a challenge. Those with supportive medical skills also invited to apply. UK and local permissions apply.
Construction - Builders, electrical, plumbing, landscapers, painting and decorating.
Musical/Drama/Arts/Crafts - Those with skills they can pass on to others as well as be supportive to the whole team experience.
Those with no obvious skills - It may be that you feel you have little to offer in terms of skills, but we are ready to encourage those with a willing heart and those ready to work hard.

Team Activities: Mission Teams are particularly geared up serve the indigenous communities by sharing the Good News about Jesus Christ, serving in practical projects and ministering to adults, children and youth. Team activities vary according to country and host organisation requirements.

Mission International is not a 'mission tourism' organisation but it if often possible to include some interesting activities into our programme of events although these can include a further cost.

Team returns after hectic schedule:

The Hope Centre kids make a real song and dance!

A 15 strong team of evangelists, medics and a dentist have recently returned from Burundi where they worked very hard and were able to provide a very useful service to the poor.

Mission International's Hope Centre is home to poor and orphaned children as a result of Burundi's recent war. The children, one living in very poor conditions, have now been provided with many improvements including lovely homes and a regular and balanced diet. When the team came to visit, the kids entertained them with a traditional song and dance.

The team visited the Anglican cathedral and hospital complex in Matana on the way to Rutana. The Burundian Archbishop showed them round the facility which is in need of a wide range of help and support. The operating theatre is pictured below.

By the time the team reached the villages surrounding Rutana there were hundreds of people waiting for medical and dental care. The folks stood in the sun for days as the medics methodically worked their way through as many patients as possible. Not everyone could be seen, it was sad to say goodbye, in particular to those who could not be helped as a result of time constraints as well as the lack of medicines and the need for more radical hospital treatments.
Here patents are treated with a mobile dental team in a rudimentary surgery set up for the occasion.

Although people came to have their physical needs met they also needed spiritual support. The tea also preached to the waiting crowds seeing many respond positively to them.

Beautiful food was provided for the team at every stage of the trip, below is a good example of what was on offer.

One team member was intrigued by the way mothers in Burundi carry their babies and decided to give it a go.

Burundi 2009 Team training:

Team training takes place on the hottest day of the year!

Trainees for the 2009 Burundi team sacrificed much of their day in the searing heat to take part in teams training. The team of 15 in total started early after travelling in from various parts of Scotland and remained late to make sure every detail had been covered before their epic trip to what has become the world's poorest country. A dentist, a doctor and three other medics are part of the team. Members in their teens and those who have retired are mixed together to make this a very versatile and exciting team to be part of.The team picture shows a couple of folks missing.

Team members from Port Seton and other friends were our hosts for the day and laid out beautiful meals for us, everyone expressed their gratitude for their hard work.

Team members receive their instructions, a session of testimonies was also arranged where some team members practised the skills they will need for their time on team.

The hot sunshine experienced during the training day was a real attraction and so at any spare moment team members could be found outside enjoying the sun ans surveying the beautiful view over Port Seton's picturesque harbour.

Burundi Summer Team!

Burundi Team Plans:

Mission International is planning a team to Burundi during July 2009. The team, made up of medics a dentist and a number of evangelists and kids workers, will partner with Rema Ministries, an indigenous Burundian NGO, to serve the community there in particular the returning refugees coming back from the Tanzanian refugee camps.

The team will travel throughout the length and breadth of the country to share the Good News as well as provide medical and dental support to returnee communities.

Menzieshill High School Team October 2008

School Team works hard:

The Menzieshill High School team from Dundee, who returned to Scotland recently from Uganda, have been commended for their hard work and dedication. The team spent a few days of their trip painting the ARMS primary school in Gabba giving it a fresh look, one which staff and pupils alike appreciated.

"Bethany is wonderful".

Bethany Village near Kyaggwe, a 40 minute boat ride over Lake Victoria, was the second work venue for the team of 7 girls and 1 boy supported by three members of staff. Here the team painted an orphan home which houses 15 orphaned children and their houseparent. The team visited each house in turn in the evenings and were involved with the children in their devotions and were able to spend time hearing their stories.

Sports field preparation:

The time spent at Bethany was not all used for painting. Before leaving Scotland the team, assisted by friends, family and school staff had raised enough money to build a sports field for the orphan children in Bethany village. The first step was to clear and level the land, this was done by hiring a bulldozer, after which manual labour will be used to make the final preparations.

Idyllic setting:

The boundary of Lake Victoria is incredibly beautiful, no more so than the shoreline around Bethany Village. The beauty of the surroundings is emphasised by the peaceful atmosphere and the flora and fauna all around.

Murchison Falls:

To go to Africa and not to see some of its wildlife would have been a travesty. The team spend two days at Murchison falls Game park where they saw a wide range of large and small game animals and water animals and birds.

The Murchison Falls are particularly beautiful. We were able to see the after a 2 hour trip up river.

Carol our local guide enjoys the falls from above, this was her first time to visit the falls.

Visakhapatnam - India team visits leprosy patients:

India Team share with Visakhapatnam leper colony:

The welcome received in India for the Mission International team from Woodhill Evangelical Church in Glasgow has been wonderful. Everyone has been well received wherever they went, but no more heartily than in Visakhapatnam where the team were hosted by Pastor Nathaniel Varaprasad and his wife Beaulah of Gideon Evangelical Ministry.

Here the team share gospel stories with the the group of lepers who were very glad to have visitors come to their place especially to see them.

The team share foodstuffs with the residents, encouraging them that someone cares for them in their difficulties.

Uganda School team training starts:

Team Training gets underway:

A team from Menzieshill High School in Dundee, Scotland will be heading for Uganda in October 2008 for a period of three weeks. The team training will cover issues to do with culture, behaviour, practical issues etc. The team are excited about the trip and are so much looking forward to it after having been involved in fundraising for almost two years. Gabba Community near Kampala is the destination and base for the team. They will get involved and support the projects already underway in the network of schools, clinics and churches connected to Gabba. The hosts, Africa Renewal Ministries, are well experienced at receiving and deploying teams and so this should be a busy but enjoyable trip for everyone involved.

India Team - Puritigadda

Greetings from Puritigadda.

A message from Suresh of IVM (India Village Ministries) the host of the team.

The team from Woodhill Evangelical Church have arrived safely here on Saturday morning. We are having blessed time with them. They are all keeping well. By God's grace, they have adjusted well to climate, food etc. We are doing our best to look after them. On Sunday they ministered at our village church; In the afternoon, they spent time with children at the Children's Home. Children enjoyed meeting them and are having great time. On Monday they visited Chitturpu village church; In this village, most women (believers) have been persecuted by their own husbands for the sake of their faith in Jesus. On Monday evening, the team ministered to children. They visited new children's Home building works. Yesterday they attended my cousin's wedding reception-; Last night visited a church in Nagayathippa village- by the time we finished the service it is around 11pm.

We are delighted to receive the news from the team in India. No doubt we will have further news of their trip later.

2009 Team members are already fundraising!

It's never too early to get started:

Three teenagers are already fundraising to go on a Mission International team to Africa in 2009. Rheagan Donaldson, Christie Shearer and Alison Ewan heard a few months ago that there was a possibility of them joining a mission team in 2009 and that was enough to get them started on their programme of fundraising. The three 'Amigos' are planning ahead as they set about making and selling cards and necklaces as well as washing cars and the like in order that they can get their team costs gathered together. They are exactly the kind of team members Mission International is trying to locate. They are keen, committed and have their faith firmly focused on God who they believe will help them in their fundraising efforts. We wish these youngsters every success as they work hard towards their target.

Support a Mission Team Member:

Called and sent:
Many Christians around the world feel called to serve God in a country far from their home. Their calling is not in dispute and their fervour for God and His people undoubted, however the finance to send them is not available to them. Some come from homes and communities which do not share their passion for the lost and some come from a situation where finances are limited. Your support in terms of sponsorship can change all of that. You may be someone who is passionate about mission but for whatever reason you cannot travel to an overseas mission field. However you may be able to assist someone else fulfil their calling to serve God abroad.

Romans 10:13-15 "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." 14 How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? 15 And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!"

Mission International teams prepare to go!

After a training event hosted in Glasgow, where Mission International teams received information about their trip which will stand them in good stead as they prepare to go on mission, the excitement mounts for everyone. The teams, one to Burundi and the other to India, will be involved in a variety of activities such as evangelism, project work and kids ministry. Everyone was fully briefed about their hosts, the culture and what they would need to take with them during the training. Volunteers from the church prepared food for the group for which everyone was very grateful. This kind of home support should not be underestimated since it makes the whole process possible.

Teams 2008

Three teams:

Mission International is sending three teams this year (2008). One team will head for India to serve with India Village Ministries, and other will spend three weeks in Burundi working with Rema Ministries and the Hope centre Burundi and finally a third will head for Uganda to share their skills with the folks in ARM (Africa Renewal Ministries).
